Biography
Louise Francis-Smith born and raised in New Zealand, works as a photographer in Vancouver. She has spent many years focusing her lens on Strathcona where she lives, Historic Chinatown and the Downtown Eastside. The content of her work, Vancouver’s Cityscapes, streetscapes, architecture and people reflect and uncover layers of geographic, historic, economic and social undercurrents.
“I have always been drawn to the landscape and how we live in it, drawn to the social fabric, interested in the human condition and looking below the surface. While it is not glamorous photographing in the midst of the vulnerable and the poor, it is heart-opening and inspiring. The area is not curated or stylized, it holds history and is in transition.”
